AccesabilityLogoFor our guests with reduced mobility

Whilst we have not been formally assessed by the tourist board for access, we have used this logo from the National Accessibility Scheme, in the hope it helps to guide you in our suitability for your needs. Whilst the cottage is not suitable for wheelchair users, if you can use a flight of stairs to get to bed (with banister rail), but need grip handles in the bathroom etc, we may be able to help, so please do read on.

Key features

  • Electric riser/recliner chair in the lounge.
  • Downstairs shower/WC with grab-rails & shower seat can be provided on request.
  • Open plan level access through downstairs once inside i.e. suitable for a rollator or crutches.
  • Outside power- socket and parking for a mobility scooter.

Outside front

The cottage has 3 steps up to the front door with a hand rail. There is an outside socket and a hard standing area beside the front door for guests who may wish to park and recharge an electric mobility scooter or cycle. It is also possible if you wish to use a security chain lock, to secure this around the metal spindles under the hand rail.

To access the front door there are 2 big steps, 1 little step, and a threshold (height first step =24 cm, second step = 25 cm, third step = 12 cm, threshold = 7 cm). The overall rise from the road = 62 cm.

The ground floor is all open plan with level access. The lounge is open plan through to kitchen, and conservatory. The lounge has an electric ‘riser-relaxer-recliner’ chair.

Shower/ bathroom

The downstairs shower/WC has level access from the conservatory (which is virtually level access from kitchen/lounge, there is a small lip on the wooden threshold of about 1 cm). There is a large shower tray with a step to access (about 16 cm). An adjustable height shower stool, and plastic step up for the shower tray, can be provided on request. Grab rails are fitted in the shower and around hand basin /WC.

Stairs to first floor

There are 11 steps to the first floor, with a hand rail, including a hand rail in the upstairs hallway. Once upstairs there is level access to the main bedroom and bathroom; there are no grab rails in the upstairs bathroom. There is 1 step up (about 20 cm) to access both single rooms.

Outside garden

One step from conservatory into the garden (about 20 cm), thereafter the surface is level (but cobbled and very uneven – not good for a rollator).
