From our Guest Book

“What can we say about Waterlily Cottage that hasn’t already been said?! Extremely comfortable, very appropriately decorated, and in a well serviced village. We couldn’t have been happier with our week. Do try the food in The Hawkins Arms, and the Indian is pretty good too. Claire was very helpful both before and after we arrived, so many thanks!”
June 3-9 2017

“Our third visit, 4th already booked! Recommendation in itself! We all had a lovely stay, thank you”
July 7-14 2017

“This little cottage really is perfect. This is our 5th stay which says it all really! had a wonderful week and the weather has been kind…most of the time! Thanks Claire & Dan – you were very attentive and we really appreciated you being at the end of a text message. We will almost certainly be staying here again”
July 21-28 2017

“Third time round and we still love Probus. We are still finding new favourite places – even within the Roseland so we will have to come again to keep on discovering. The location of Waterlily is paramount to the deliverance of opinion, not to mention its attractive comfort. P.S really happy with the seamless transition of ownership and management of Waterlily, We hope it continues as we want to come again.”
July 28-11 August 2017

“Lovely cosy cottage and perfect location. Everything you could need (thanks for the teapot!) Recommend the fish and chips around the corner and the curry house. We didn’t need to try anything else! Zanna’s has closed down so don’t try to find it! Eden project, Lost Gardens of Heligan, Charlestown and Trelisick all worth a visit.”
September 08-15 2017

“Cottage as nice as ever! Recommend taking Place Ferry from St Mawes and then walking round the headland to St Anthony Head. (ferry wasn’t working whilst we were here) Do NOT recommend St Michaels Mount in horizontal rain and howling gales. Hope to return soon!”
September 15-22 2017

“Loved the cottage! Very comfortable and thank you for a lovely stay. Enjoyed Cornwall very much and hope to return. Will not wait 40 years next time! Sad to be going back to Canada.”
September 29-06 October 2017

“Have really enjoyed our two weeks here in your lovely cottage. Lots of nice gardens to visit around the area especially Trelissick Gardens. Ideal centre for touring Cornwall. Thanks for everything.”
October 06-20 2017

“We really enjoyed our stay here in Cornwall. Lots to see and do around the area. Waterlily cottage was a lovely place to ‘call our home’ during the week. We would recommend visiting the Poldark mine and some of the other heritage sites, it was really interesting to learn about the history and see where some of the Poldark scenes were filmed. Another great place was the Eden Project, where we saw how the work of conservation can benefit our planet. Enjoyed taking a walk around Holywell and the coastline, ending the day watching the sunset at Newquay. Thank you so much for a wonderful stay, we will come back again soon.”
October 21-28 2017

“Thanks again for your friendly ‘sea-side’ cottage. Brilliant for the family overflow! Much appreciated your child safety improvements since our last stay (Oct 2015) with the added stairgates and boarded-in landing our toddler couldn’t escape. Your attention to detail and visitors comments are to be admired. Thanks Lucy and Jane. Must mention the beautiful, carefully planted window boxes and tubs as a visual treat. See you again Waterlily Cottage.”
Beugre Family, Nr Langenberg, Germany, July 2016

Many Thanks.”

“Thank you for a home away from home. We could stay here forever (in fact my wife is hiding in the sun-room and is refusing to leave!). One week here and in Cornwall is not enough. We will be back (if only to collect my wife!).”
Richard and Maria Rowland, Adelaide South Australia, May 2016

“A delightful cottage with such attention to detail – the lovely Cornish tea was very welcome. Weather not great so glad of a comfortable ‘home’ to spend time in. Thank you.”
Allan & Eileen, Gloucestershire, May 2016

Peter and Judy, Somerset, April 2016.

“A very comfortable and relaxing cottage with lots of extra special touches. Probus has been ideal as we wanted to visit all of Cornwall. Can recommend the Hawkins Arms for great food and real ale, the mobile pizza van and the cafe at the end of the road for cakes! Would have no hesitation recommending this cottage. Thank you.”
Ann & Duncan Petty, Skelmersdale, Lancs, Mar 2016

Beverley and Graham Jones – Eckington, Worcs; Joyce Ford and Ginny Paletsky – Hampton, New England, USA, Sept-Oct 2015

“Our first time in Cornwall and we are so glad we chose Waterlily Cottage. Superbly equipped and so well located to visit all parts of the county. Highlights were Kynance Cove, Eden Project, Minack and Lost Gardens of Heligan. We would not hesitate to return to Waterlily or to recommend it to friends and family. Thanks also to Lucy for keeping in touch. Sorry to have missed you.”
Adrian, Marianna and John Rostron, Sept 2015, Glinton (Peterborough)

“Thank you very much for a very warm welcome – the cream tea went down very well indeed! We have stayed in Cornwall many, many times and can honestly say that Waterlily Cottage is the cosiest and most well-equipped accommodation we have been in. We recommend eating at the Hawkins Arms and we particularly enjoyed Porthcurnick beach – beautiful sandy beach, great for swimming, rock pools and food at “The Hidden Hut”! “We will be back”….!!”
The Hambridge Family, Nicholas, Elizabeth and Samuel (8), Aug-Sept 2015, Derbyshire

“We have really enjoyed our stay at Waterlily Cottage; it is more than adequate for our needs even as a party of 2 adults and 3 young children – there was space-a-plenty – well equipped and nicely presented the cottage is a nice place to hang out at. We have found the amenities -the farm shop – brilliant and have regularly bought them out of sausages (fabulous), ham, lamb, little miss muffet cheese, ciabatta rolls and various fruit and veg. The chippy does ‘scraps’! and the fish is very good! We had a lovely meal at the Hawkins. On the whole we found the local people in Probus very friendly and welcoming and easy to chat with. Probus has been a great location as a launch pad into Cornwall. Our favourite beach was Porthcurnick when compared with Kynance Cove or Perran Sands. Zacharey’s favourite place was the Lost Gardens of Heligan; Max enjoyed the beaches with his new found water confidence; Alexander really enjoyed the Eden Project. In essence we have found plenty to see and do from Probus regardless of the weather which has been unusually changeable. We should like to stay again – perhaps next summer, same time – same place. Other places we visited included, Tintagel Castle, Pendennis Castle, Flambards, Mevagissey – we saw dolphins and barrel jellyfish (no basking sharks though), Port Isaac, Falmouth, The Lizard – we saw seals, St Nicholas Point and we stopped and spent half a day at Lanhydrock on the way here. There is plenty more to see and do yet!”
Simeon, Laura, Max (8), Zachary (6), Alexander (6). August 2015, Chiswick, London

“This is our third holiday and as ever we have had a fantastic stay – like a home from home. Zannah’s scones are the best we have had to date! Favourites this year were crabbing in Padstow, Clip ‘n’ Climb for a rainy day, the Hidden Hut at Porthcurnick Beach and the Eden Project. We also enjoyed a carvery at the Norway Inn! Thank you again Lucy for looking after us so well. Hayley, Sagar, Sky and Jay xxx”
The Shah family, July-August 2015, Chiswick, London

“This was our 3rd holiday at Waterlily and we plan to come again next year – proof that we consider this little cottage very close to perfection! As ever, thank you Lucy.”
Lee, Laura & Maisie, June 2015, Alrewas, Staffordshire

“Lovely stay again (we stayed in February 2015), mixed weather but this didn’t keep us in! Great day at Caerhays Castle (highly recommended) & also superb day at Trelissick. Sunday lunch at the Pandora Inn at Mylor – go for the carvery – excellent, and lovely walks to be had from the pub. Thanks Lucy for a spotlessly clean cottage.”
Bob & Gill Tennant, May 2015, Saddleworth

“Had a wonderful 4 nights – so comfortable & also well equipped. Loved sitting in the late afternoon sun in the conservatory. Visited Trebah Gardens (45 mins drive) – amazing views & ticket allows entry for 7 days. Also went to Padstow – great galleries and pasties! Also good coastal walks around Gorran Haven and Mevagissey. Hope to return again. Many thanks.”
Paula Kierney, May 2015, Dorset

“Thank you very much again for our lovely “Cornish Welcome” with the scones and cream etc, so thoughtful and kind! We loved our second holiday in ‘Waterlily Cottage’ and found the wild flowers, scenery etc enchanting. There is nothing you haven’t thought of to provide every comfort for your visitors. Hope to come again some time.”
Alison, Howard & Lesley, May 2015, Bedford, Berks

“Thank you very much for a delightful holiday in ‘Waterlily Cottage’ I have had a lovely time in your perfect cottage. Thank you.”

“What can we say apart from thank you for a warm welcome, Lucy showed a lot of concern and care for us after a 9 hour journey down from Derbyshire at the start of half term, with our son being terribly sick en route. We arrived at 10.15 pm but the lights were on, the cottage was warm and there was extra bedding if we needed it. We holiday in Cornwall 3 times a year, and know it well, but Waterlily Cottage has been a real find. Everything is of high standard, no expense is spared from the beds, duvet and accessories. It has been decorated with true lair and is a real find. Thank you! We have been very comfortable. We have enjoyed warm and sunny weather so plenty of days on the beach, Porthcurno, Porthcurnick, Holywell and Watergate Bay. If you get the chance, do see a show at the Minack Theatre (Carousel this week) – go for a matinee as it is quite a drive back. St Mawes is a delight, drinks at the terrace at the Tresanton a must. Coffee with news at Watergate Bay Hotel also a must do. The Hidden Hut at Porthcurnick also very popular – but be prepared to queue. Thanks for a wonderful holiday!”
Elaine, Darren & Oliver West, May 2015, Brookside, Chesterfield, Derbyshire

“What a wonderful week. The weather has been perfect. Thank you for the scones & cream – a lovely start to our holiday. This is a beautiful cottage with all that we could wish for. We particularly enjoyed seeing the parrows and Blue tits checking out the birdhouse. Went searching for the curry house only to find it has disappeared, never mind, the fish & chips were a good 2nd best. Thanks again. Will be coming back.”
Andrea, Chris, Nathaniel & Caleb, April 2015, Sidford, Sidmouth

“Two weeks were not enough to see this lovely part of Cornwall. The cottage was exceptional in all ways – so comfortable to stay in. Thank you for the scones and Cornish cream when we arrived. Some suggestions for food and pub lunches – The Gaverne Inn – Port Gaverne, The Lugger – Portloe, The Blisland Inn – Blisland, The Crown Inn – Lanlivery. And of course the Hawkins Arms – Probus, for a great Sunday roast. Port Isaac is well worth a visit as is Mevagissey, St Mawes and Fowey. Saw some scenes of “Doc Martin” being filmed for the new series at Port Isaac. Probus is a lovely friendly village aided by good shops (The Farm Shop and the off licence) and the pub and chippy. Many thanks Lucy for your care and attention.”
Dell & Ted Shaw, Sydney, Australia, Mar-Apr 2015

“We had a lovely stay. The cottage is well equipped and furnished to meet all our needs. Thank you Lucy for a spotless cottage, the very helpful information and the wonderful cream tea and Valentines biscuits, perfect for our arrival on Valentines day! My daughter and granddaughter (2 years old) stayed too so the games were appreciated.”
Tennants, Saddleworth, Lancashire, Feb 2015

“We have had a truly lovely stay over Christmas/New Year. Thank you Lucy for thinking of everything and the lovely scones, cream and jam. Can recommend Zannah’s cakes and great food at the local Hawkins Arms”
